Through these torpedo tubes passed torpedoes which sunk Japanese shipping in the Sea of Japan. Kenworthy's pig boat was one of a nine-boat patrol which sneaked through enemy mine fields in the Tsushima Strait between Korea and Japan to sink more than 40 Japanese merchant and warships. Between 16 and 20 enemy ships were sunk by fire from the submarine deck guns. The dog, submarine's mascot, withstood enemy depth charges and shelling right along with his master. This photo was taken as the underwater craft neared friendly Pacific waters.
